What is Error Correcting?

  • Error correcting occurs when a musician has to deviate from the score or printed music in order to correct a mistake. This could involve getting the ensemble together again when someone gets off beat, changing a note to a different one if the harmony is not correct, or covering someone else's part if it is missing.
  • In theater, error correcting takes place when someone forgets their lines or says their lines too early and the other actors have to improvise to either fix the time gap or act off of the previous actor's mistake and try to bring the scene back to the original.
